New STI standards for commissioners and providers
Published on 02/23/10The Medical Foundation for AIDS and Sexual Health (MedFASH) and the British Association for Sexual Health and HIV (BASHH) have published nine new standards for commissioners and providers of sexually transmitted infections (STI) services.
Ranging from diagnosis and treatment to public health, the standards reflect best practice for specialists and those working in the community and primary care, and include performance indicators suitable for all settings. The standards are consistent with recent policy documents such as the Next Stage Review and the Department of Health’s forthcoming Sexual Health Commissioning Framework and Toolkit. An accompanying document for service users explains what they should expect from STI services.
The standards can be downloaded from www.bashh.org.uk and www.medfash.org.
